Want to Host a Run?

It's easy and fun.  Here are some simple steps to follow and a few resources to help.

 Choose a date

  Open one of Dan’s Emails

Click the RunWEST "Run Tracker" link

Hit the “Pick a Week” tab at the bottom

Choose an open date and add your name

Pick a starting point

Parking for up to 30 vehicles

  Ideally includes bathroom access

Bonus for coffee shops or restaurants nearby for post-run social time

Get permissions if private property, business owners, neighborhood associations or other bodies might be affected

Build a route

The tool we commonly use is RunGo:  https://routes.rungoapp.com/routes

Good routes generally consist of three loops of 2-4 miles
Each loop returns to the starting point

    10-12 miles total

Minimize busy road crossings, maximize safe running

It’s a good idea to physically check the route for changes: construction/weather damage/trail condition

Save as “Public” so that others will be able to see it
Send route link to Dan at least a week out for his review

Draft the email

Dan will send the email, but it helps if you write it out for him to review and forward; include as needed:

  Parking/bathroom/starting point information and address

Short description of the loops and distances

  Link to the run route

  Any suggestions for post-run socializing

A “quote of the week” if you want to suggest one

Make the cue sheets

Type out key turns and distances for each loop

Use this template if you like

Print out about 30 to distribute on run day

Host the run

  Welcome runners new and old
  Hand out the cue sheets

Give a quick update on any key route changes or other info

  Have a great run

  Thanks for hosting!
